Business continuity planning (BCP) is one of the vital business functions of any organization. It is about making plans, which, among other things, should include the recovery of computer systems and services from different types of outages.
Disaster Recovery Planning System represents a technological aspect of the BCP concept, and includes comprehensive plans and preparations that aim to decrease the effects of failures and establish the continuity of critical business functions in the event of disaster.
Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina information system is predominantly centralized, and as such requires a specific approach in ensuring the high availability, security and reliability of the information services business. Disaster system of an information system such as this one should be designed to: guarantee data protection in a central location, thus ensuring the existence of transparent, consistent and accurate data copies in a backup location and provide access to data in a backup location, under the conditions defined by the business processes owner.
The paper briefly describes the existing information systems with specific requirements for ensuring business continuity. Having regard to the defined requirements, as well as the specifics of the available network and server infrastructure of the company, the paper describes the hardware and software infrastructure of the Disaster Recovery System, implemented as part of the DR plan. Infrastructure Disaster Recovery System consists of three inter-correlated functional areas: network infrastructure, data center infrastructure and supporting software for data replication between the primary and backup locations.
Business continuity plan should cover the entire business operations of JP Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its development and adoption should be initiated immediately after the revision of this technical solution. Throughout the preparation of the BC plan, and during its implementation, the following stakeholders should be included: management, business process owners, Safety and Protection Division of the Information and Communication Technologies Department. Business continuity plan development activities should take place in parallel with the design and implementation of the Disaster Recovery System.
Business Continuity Plan should, inter alia, include: disaster recovery plan and risk assessment of business processes, while the business continuity plan should provide: the consent and support of all responsible persons, development of operational procedures and instructions, identifying an acceptable level of information and services losses, clearly defined roles and responsibilities of all JP Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina employees during emergency situations, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
