RB Kolubara, a subsidiary of the Serbian stateowned power utility EPS, which operates the Kolubara coalmines, announced that the company has produced 13.68 million tons of lignite in the first half of 2016, which is 2.35 % more than planned.
The largest amount of coal in 2016 was excavated at Field D open pit mine with 5.93 tons of coal, which is almost 7.5 % more than planned. At the most promising open pit mine within the Kolubara basin – Tamnava West Field, 5.9 million tons of coal were produced in the first six months of this year.
In 2015, RB Kolubara produced 28.7 million tons of coal, out of EPS’ total production of nearly 37 million tons. The remaining 8.4 million tons of coal in 2015 was produced in Kostolac open pit mines. The 2015 result is excellent considering the consequences of catastrophic floods in May 2014, which affected the coal mining sector throughout the year, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
