Net production of electricity in North Macedonia in May 2023 amounted to 373,242 MWh. That is 3% lower compared to the same month last year, according to data from State Statistical Office Makstat. 226,558 MWh or 61% was produced at thermal power plants (-3 % compared to May 2022), 129,014 MWh or 35% was produced at hydropower plants (- 6%) and 9,698 MWh or 3% was produced by wind farm. Production at biogas power plants was 4,615 MWh, while solar power plants produced 2,547 MWh.
Electricity consumption in May 2023 amounted to 494,264 MWh, natural gas consumption amounted to 4.56 million cubic meters, coal consumption reached 453,774 tons and the consumption of petroleum products stood at 92,906 tons. According to Makstat, 81% of the consumed electricity in May was covered by domestic production, while 98% of the total coal consumption was used for electricity production.
