According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to 1,281 GWh, which is significantly lower compared to the same period last year (3,213 GWh).
The country’s electricity exports fell significantly in the January-March 2019 period and amounted to just 84 GWh, compared to 1,204 GWh in the same period in 2018, while electricity imports rose to 901 GWh from last year’s 115 GWh. Almost entire volume of Albania’s electricity was generated by hydropower plants (1,277 GWh), with about 54 % (687 GWh) of that amount produced by state controlled HPPs. Electricity network losses decreased by 11.4 % in January-March 2019 period to 531 GWh, with distribution losses down by 3.9 % and transmission losses decreased by 55.9 % compared to the same period last year.
