Albania has approved the development of two large-scale solar power plants in the southeast of the country, paving the way for 152 MW of new solar capacity to be added near Korçë under long-term operating concessions granted to local companies.
According to a government decision, Tekno Fire has received permission to build a 102 MW solar facility in the area and will have three years to complete construction. Once commissioned, the company will be entitled to operate the facility for a period of 49 years.
A second permit was granted to Kronos Konstruksion, which will develop a separate 50 MW solar project, also in the vicinity of Korçë. That plant will follow the same timeline, with a three-year construction window and a 49-year operational term.
Under the terms approved by the government, both developers will be required to provide a share of the electricity generated by their projects to the state. Specifically, each company must either supply 2% of its annual output free of charge to the Ministry of Energy or pay the equivalent value of that electricity into the state budget.
The approvals represent another step in Albania’s continued push to expand renewable generation and diversify its electricity mix beyond its traditionally hydro-dominated system.
