Floating 2 MW solar power plant will be built at the reservoir of its hydropower plant Banja. The start of the construction works is expected by the end of the month. The constructor is Norwegian energy company Statkraft.
Last year, Statkraft announced that it has selected Norwegian company Ocean Sun to supply solar panels for the future 2 MW floating solar power plant.
In the first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020, the equipment supplier Ocean Sun will deliver a complete floating 0.5 MW DC system at the reservoir. The second phase envisages adding additional three floating 0.5 MW units in 2021, bringing the total solar capacity to 2 MW. The investment is estimated to 2.3 million euros. In December 2018, Statkraft Renewables Albania filed a request to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for a construction permit for a floating solar park, which was later obtained. Also in December, state-owned Power Corporation (KESH) has applied for the construction permit for a floating solar power plant with installed capacity of 12.9 MW. It is planned that solar panels will float on the water reservoir of hydropower plant Vau te Dejes.
