According to data from the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in Albania during the third quarter of 2024 totaled 1,564 GWh, reflecting a 2.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, when production reached 1,611 GWh.
During the July-September period, the country’s electricity exports saw a significant drop of 38% year-on-year, amounting to 282 GWh. In contrast, electricity imports increased by 1%, reaching 762 GWh.
The majority of Albania’s electricity production in Q3 2024 came from hydropower plants, with 88.2% of total generation derived from this source. State-owned hydropower plants contributed 1,088 GWh, while privately owned plants produced 292 GWh.
Electricity consumption in Albania during the third quarter rose by 7.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 1,702 GWh. However, network losses also increased, rising from 328 GWh in the same period of 2023 to 344 GWh in 2024.
