Albania: For the first time since 2010 Albania is not importing electricity, SEE Energy News
After many years energy trade balance in the Albanian power sector will again be on a positive level.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Industry, this result is a consequence of a series of measures, such as good operation of KESH company, rational use of hydropower and reduction of technical and non-technical losses of OSHEE company.
For the first time since 2010 the amount of produced electricity in the country is higher than the total amount of consumed electricity in 2016.
One of determining factors is fight against the electricity theft (non-technical losses) in the period 2013 – 2016, which reduced the consumption by approximately 1.1 TWh.
After more than six years the production of electricity from hydropower in Albania in 2016 is 7.3 TWh which is more than domestic consumption that amounted to about 6.6 TWh.
