Turkish renewable energy developer Fortis Energy has begun construction on a new hybrid energy project in southeastern Albania, combining solar generation with battery storage. The investment marks another step in the company’s expansion across the Western Balkans, where utility-scale renewables are increasingly paired with flexibility solutions.
The project includes a 75 MW solar power plant located near the town of Erseke, alongside a separate 40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the nearby village of Tac-Larte. According to company estimates, the solar facility is expected to produce around 135 GWh of electricity annually, contributing significant new renewable capacity to Albania’s power mix.
Construction activities started following the issuance of a building permit by Albanian authorities in June 2025, confirming regulatory approval for the development phase. The project is being executed with a combination of local contractors and suppliers, supported by international partners, reflecting a growing trend of hybrid cooperation models in regional energy infrastructure.
The Erseke project is part of Fortis Energy’s broader renewable strategy in Albania, where the company is developing a portfolio totaling 234 MW of generation capacity. In parallel, it is also advancing additional battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 75 MWh, underlining the increasing role of storage in stabilizing variable renewable output in Southeast Europe.
