French renewable energy company Voltalia reported that its 140 MW Karavasta solar power plant in southwestern Albania produced a total of 260 GWh of electricity in 2025, marking an increase of approximately 0.7% compared to the previous year. The plant began generating electricity in December 2023, completing its first full year of operations.
About half of the annual output from Karavasta is supplied to the Albanian electricity distribution system operator, OSHEE, under a 15-year power purchase agreement, while the remaining electricity is sold to private operators through long-term contracts, ensuring stable revenue streams for the project.
In 2025, the Albanian energy regulator, ERE, granted a 30-year electricity generation license for Spitalla Solar, the project company created by Voltalia. This license enables the company to develop and operate a 90 MW solar power plant near the coastal city of Durres, marking Voltalia’s second major solar investment in Albania and securing operational rights for the next three decades.
Construction at the Spitalla site began in late 2025, and the project is expected to become operational in the latter half of 2027.
