Construction of a planned 100 MW solar power plant near Sokolac could begin in August, following earlier delays caused by permitting and administrative procedures, according to local officials and the project developer.
The project is being developed by EnerState, a company linked to Germany’s Profine Group. When first announced in 2024, the total investment was estimated at around €120 million, positioning it among the larger solar developments in the region.
Sokolac Mayor Strahinja Bašević confirmed that the municipality has now fulfilled all obligations under its competence, including the signing of a construction rights agreement. Remaining steps are now focused on approvals and permits at the entity level, which are still pending.
According to EnerState, the project is in its final preparation phase. Although a construction permit has already been issued, additional documentation for several land parcels within the project area is still being completed. The company also noted that talks with Elektroprijenos BiH regarding grid connection costs are progressing in line with expectations.
On the financing side, preparations are ongoing and must be finalised before a contractor can be selected. The tender process for construction will therefore begin only after the financing structure is closed. Groundworks are expected to start once both regulatory and financial conditions are fully met.
The solar plant will be located on the Glasinac plateau near Sokolac and is planned with an installed capacity of approximately 100 MW. Earlier project designs also considered the use of tracking technology, allowing solar panels to follow the sun throughout the day to improve generation efficiency.
