Lawmakers in the upper chamber of the Federation’s Parliament have approved a major financing package aimed at expanding renewable energy capacity, endorsing a €103 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the development of a new wind project.
The agreement is formally signed at the state level by Bosnia and Herzegovina, while implementation and repayment responsibilities will fall on EP HZHB, the public utility operating within the Federation.
The financing terms include a 25-year repayment period, with a five-year grace period before full repayments begin. The funds will be used for the construction of the Poklečani wind farm near Posušje, located in the mountainous region of West Herzegovina.
The planned facility will consist of 20 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 132 MW. Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 437 GWh of electricity annually, significantly contributing to the region’s renewable energy output.
Earlier, in January, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina also approved a related step by endorsing a €42 million grant agreement with the European Investment Bank through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), further supporting the development of the Poklecani wind project.
