In April 2021 gross electricity production in the country amounted to 1,299 GWh, compared to 1,170 GWh in the same month last year, according to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 39.9 %, thermal power plants with 57.1 % and solar and wind power plants with 3 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 510 GWh in April 2021, which is 132.9 % more than in the same month in 2020. Thermal production amounted to 671 GWh, which is 19.9 % less than last April. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 39 GWh. Electricity imports rose by 53.8 % to 320 GWh in April from last year’s 208 GWh, while exports increased by 27.4 % to 588 GWh (462 GWh in April 2020). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 587,000 tons in April 2021, which is 9.3 % less compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal decreased by 36.4 % and amounted to 347,000 tons. Natural gas imports in April 2021 amounted to 3.11 million cubic meters, significantly less compared to a year before (14.29 million cubic meters).
