According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached 1,340 GWh in February 2026, compared to 1,258 GWh in the same month a year earlier. Hydropower plants accounted for 55.2% of total production, while thermal power plants contributed 38.4%, and solar and wind facilities made up the remaining 6.4%.
Net electricity generation from hydropower plants totaled 739 GWh in February 2026, marking a 100.8% increase compared to the same month in 2024. In contrast, thermal power generation fell significantly to 515 GWh, representing a 38.1% decline year-on-year. Electricity production from renewable sources, including wind and solar, reached 86 GWh, recording a 48.3% increase compared to the previous year.
Electricity imports rose slightly by 4.3% to 343 GWh in February 2026, up from 329 GWh in February 2025, while exports saw a sharp 42% increase, reaching 635 GWh compared to 447 GWh a year earlier. This indicates a notable strengthening of the country’s export position in the electricity market.
At the same time, lignite production in Bosnia and Herzegovina totaled 416,000 tons in February 2026, reflecting a 13.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. Production of brown coal declined even more sharply, falling by 48% to 266,000 tons. Meanwhile, natural gas imports dropped to 26.79 million cubic meters, which is 9.6% lower than in February of the previous year.
