Financial problems at the Brod oil refinery worsened again last year, with the company closing 2025 with a deficit of more than 41 million euros. Newly released financial statements indicate that the refinery remains stuck in a long-running cycle of losses. Compared to the previous year, the negative result expanded significantly. In 2024 the company reported a loss of about 31.1 million euros, while in 2025 the deficit increased to roughly 41.1 million euros, representing a deterioration of around 10 million euros in a single year.
The worsening outcome came despite higher revenues. The refinery generated income of approximately 26.6 million euros in 2025, compared to 20.8 million euros in 2024. However, operating costs rose at a much faster pace, ultimately pushing the business deeper into financial trouble.
Total expenses climbed to about 66.6 million euros last year, up from roughly 50.5 million euros in the previous year. The steep increase in costs far outweighed the improvement in revenues, leading to another large annual loss.
The refinery’s cumulative deficit has now reached approximately 492.5 million euros. At the same time, the workforce continued to shrink. By the end of 2025, the refinery employed 310 workers, nine fewer than at the end of 2024, continuing the gradual decline in staff numbers.
