According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), gross electricity production in December 2025 reached 1,465 GWh, slightly above 1,459 GWh in the same month of 2024. Of the total production, hydropower plants contributed 37.7%, thermal power plants 57.3%, and solar and wind 5%.
Net hydropower production totaled 549 GWh, a 6.2% increase year-on-year. Thermal production decreased by 3.3% to 753 GWh, while electricity from renewable sources (wind and solar) rose by 8.9%, reaching 73 GWh.
Electricity trade showed a decline: imports fell by 8.3% to 410 GWh (from 447 GWh in December 2024), and exports dropped slightly by 0.7% to 568 GWh (572 GWh in December 2024).
Regarding fuel production and imports, lignite output decreased by 10.2% to 527,000 tons, and brown coal production fell 6.8% to 450,000 tons. Natural gas imports slightly decreased by 2.5%, totaling 34.4 million cubic meters (down from 35.3 million cubic meters in December 2024).
