In September 2020 gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 1,152 GWh, compared to 1,262 GWh in the same month last year, according to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 26.3 %, thermal power plants with 71.9 % and solar and wind power plants with 1.8 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 301 GWh in September 2020, which is 8.5 % less than in the same month in 2019. Thermal production amounted to 750 GWh, which is 8.5 % less than last September. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 20 GWh.
Electricity imports rose by 26.7 % to 318 GWh in September from last year’s 251 GWh, while exports dropped slightly to 541 GWh (545 GWh in September 2019). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 654,000 tons in September 2020, which is 7.9 % less compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal increased by 10.3 % and amounted to 473,000 tons. Natural gas imports in September 2020 amounted to 6.898 million cubic meters, which is 21 % less than a year before (8.735 million cubic meters).
