Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) amounted to 461 GWh in May 2026, which is 10% lower compared to May last year, when production reached 512 GWh.
In the total generation mix, hydropower plants accounted for 30.6%, thermal power plants 53.8%, while wind farms contributed 15.6% of gross electricity production.
Net electricity production stood at 411 GWh, with 121 GWh generated by hydropower, 219 GWh by thermal plants, and 71 GWh from wind farms.
On the trade side, electricity imports decreased to 89 GWh, down from 142 GWh in the same month last year, while exports also fell significantly to 56 GWh, compared to 117 GWh in May 2025.
In the fuel sector, brown coal production increased to 311,688 tons, marking a 4.9% rise year-on-year. In contrast, lignite output dropped to 100,369 tons, a 23.6% decline compared to 131,316 tons in May 2025.
At the same time, coke production fell to zero in May 2026, following the permanent closure of the Lukavac coke plant.
