Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) reached 736 GWh in December 2025, representing a 4.8% year-on-year decline compared to 773 GWh recorded in December 2024. The generation mix was led by thermal power plants, which accounted for 49.9% of total output, followed by hydropower plants with 44.1%, while wind farms contributed 6%.
Net electricity production amounted to 693 GWh. Of this total, hydropower plants generated 322 GWh, thermal power plants produced 327 GWh, and wind farms delivered 44 GWh, confirming a relatively balanced contribution between hydro and thermal sources during the month.
On the trade side, electricity imports fell sharply to 87 GWh, down from 176 GWh in December last year, while exports declined to 76 GWh compared to 155 GWh in December 2024. The data point to a significant contraction in cross-border electricity flows, reflecting weaker overall market activity.
Coal production showed mixed trends. Brown coal output dropped to 259,820 tons, marking a 31.4% decrease from 378,899 tons recorded in December 2024. In contrast, lignite production increased by 12.8% year-on-year, reaching 132,099 tons, up from 117,084 tons in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, coke production declined sharply, totaling 21,441 tons in December 2025, a 46.7% reduction compared to 40,225 tons produced in December 2024, underlining ongoing pressures in the industrial fuels segment.
