Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) in January 2026 reached 800 GWh, marking a 7.82% increase compared to January 2025, when production was 746 GWh. In total gross electricity production, hydropower plants contributed 54.8%, thermal power plants 38.4%, and wind farms 6.8%.
Net electricity production amounted to 760 GWh, of which 435 GWh came from hydropower plants, 270 GWh from thermal power plants, and 55 GWh from wind farms. Electricity imports in January totaled 131 GWh, down from 254 GWh in the same month last year, while exports reached 55 GWh, compared to 148 GWh in January 2025.
In terms of coal production, brown coal output in January 2026 was 207,109 tons, a 39.9% decrease from 344,755 tons in January 2025. Lignite production fell slightly to 103,517 tons from 109,852 tons, a 5.8% drop. Coke production totaled 26,190 tons, down 18.3% from 32,068 tons produced in January 2025.
Overall, FBiH experienced higher electricity generation while relying less on imports and producing significantly less fossil fuel, reflecting changes in both demand and fuel mix.
