The gas utility Sarajevo-Gas from Istočno Sarajevo has excluded a Turkish company from the prequalification stage of a major infrastructure tender valued at around 450 million euros, concerning the construction of a main gas pipeline in the eastern part of the Republic of Srpska (RS). After the evaluation process, only one bidder satisfied the criteria to proceed to the next phase. A consortium of companies from the RS and Serbia, which has previously worked with Sarajevo-Gas, qualified to move forward and may now submit a financial offer.
The review was conducted by the commission in charge of the design and construction of the planned Šepak–Novi Grad gas pipeline. Upon examining the two applications received, the commission determined that the Turkish firm Vemak Insaat Taahhut failed to meet the formal and legal requirements defined in the tender documentation, resulting in its disqualification. In contrast, the application from the regional consortium was found to be fully compliant.
The RS Government approved the construction of the Šepak–Novi Grad main gas pipeline in November 2025, labeling it a project of strategic importance within the entity’s energy development strategy through 2035. Sarajevo-Gas initiated the tender for the pipeline’s design and construction late last year, with an estimated value of approximately 450 million euros.
The pipeline is planned to be implemented in three stages. The first stage includes building the Šepak–Banja Luka section, followed by the development of branch pipelines linking municipalities and cities along the route. The final stage envisions extending the main pipeline from Banja Luka to Novi Grad, completing the planned network.
