Authorities expect that thermal power plant Ugljevik will reconnect to the electricity network around 20 April, following the completion of a scheduled maintenance overhaul.
The maintenance works, lasting approximately 45 days, were originally planned for September. However, the timeline was moved forward after the facility ceased operations earlier this year due to insufficient coal supplies. The Ministry of Energy proposed carrying out the overhaul immediately, a suggestion accepted by the management of RiTE Ugljevik.
The maintenance program is progressing according to plan and is expected to conclude by 20 April. If the schedule is maintained, the generating unit is projected to return to regular production immediately afterward.
Energy Minister Petar Đokić noted that preparations are also underway for the exploitation of the Ugljevik Istok 2 coal deposit. The Government previously secured this resource through the acquisition of the concession company Comsar Energy RS, in a transaction valued at around 123 million euros.
The power plant has remained offline since the beginning of the year after production was halted due to coal shortages, and it has not resumed electricity generation since then.
Financial results from the previous year highlight the challenges facing the facility. The company closed 2025 with a loss of 14.2 million euros, which management attributed primarily to lower revenues from electricity sales and prices that fell short of earlier projections.
