After several months of inactivity, the coal-fired thermal power plant Ugljevik has resumed operations, marking an important step toward stabilizing electricity production in the Republic of Srpska (RS).
According to the power utility ERS, the plant’s generator was successfully reconnected to the grid in the early hours of 4 May. This synchronization effectively ends a prolonged shutdown that began earlier in 2026.
The facility had been offline since the start of the year due to operational issues, which halted electricity generation for several months. During this period, extensive maintenance works were carried out, and sufficient coal supplies were secured to support a more reliable restart.
ERS now expects a more stable operating performance going forward, as the completed overhaul and improved fuel availability should ensure consistent output from one of the Republic of Srpska’s key thermal power units.
