The construction of thermal power plant Gacko 2 was on the agenda of a recent visit of the delegation of the Republic of Srpska (RS), headed by the Prime Minister Milorad Dodik, to China.
Executive Director of coalmine and thermal power plant (RiTE) Gacko Srdjan Milovic said that several Chinese companies are interested in the realization of the project for the construction of second unit at TPP Gacko, including Dongfang Electric and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). He believes that by the end of next month all relevant information will be exchanged, so a public tender for the selection of a strategic partner in the project could be published.
The construction of 350 MW TPP Gacko 2 is one of the most important energy projects in the RS, as its implementation would contribute to the economic development of the entire country. The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining said that the development of the feasibility study is ongoing after which all the necessary decisions regarding the project will be made.
In June, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining Petar Djokic signed in Belgrade a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the construction of thermal power plant Gacko 2 with representatives of Chinese companies CMEC and China Poly Group. Minister Djokic said on the occasion that it is possible that the project will be completed in four years, recalling the fact that TPP Stanari was built in less than three years, although some considered it as an impossible project.
