Contract on engineering, procurement and construction of TPP Banovići Unit 1 – 350 MW was signed on November last year between Brown coal mine Banovići and Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (DEC) and its construction could start by the end of this year, announced Avdija Mumić, Manager of TPP Construction Office.
Financing
Mumić stated that everything was agreed except finances. Currently, intensive negotiations with banks are ongoing and once financing is agreed, preparatory works may start.
He stated that mine operation is going on well. Production is regular in the pit and two open cast mines. Last year the plan was achieved and targets set for this year are also being realized.
Mumić added that thermal power plant construction is of high importance for the mine. The production shall increase from current 1.5 to 2.3 million tons of coal. By the construction of Unit 7 in Tuzla, it would be left without placement of around million tons and the Mine would have to reduce its production by half. However, thermal power plant construction shall increase production which implies stable market and new working positions.

Cement factory
Mumić concluded that basic row material would be marl that would have to be removed during coal exploitation. Large amount of that marl would be used in cement production and the large part of ash would also be used for production, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
