Both power utilities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) – EPBiH and EP HZHB informed that extremely high temperatures caused the increase of use of air conditioners, thus increasing the consumption of electricity. Despite the increase, the supply of electricity in FBiH remains stable.
According to sources from EPBiH, electricity consumption in June reached 387,773 MWh, which is by 9,313 MWh or 2.5 % more than in the same month last year. Despite the extremely poor hydrological situation that resulted in a significant reduction in the inflow of water into accumulations, 665.84 GWh of electricity was produced in EPBiH’s capacities last month, which is 6.04 % more than planned.
According to EP HZHB, electricity consumption was some 3 % higher compared to the same period in 2016. The highest daily consumption in July 2017 was about 4 % higher than the highest daily consumption in July last year. In the first three days of August, electricity consumption increased by 6 % compared to the same period in 2016.
Both power utilities stated that despite poor hydrological conditions, they provide sufficient quantities of electricity to all their consumers.
