The electricity market will open in BIH in 2015 for all customers, including households, which will be able to buy electricity in their home country or abroad if they find a better offer.
For customers who are able to do this, market processes and the relationships between all participants on the market have to be established and clearly defined for the public to understand.
The joint statement was signed by representatives of all key institutions of the electricity sector in BiH, including the Ministry of Electricity of BiH and all its entities, three regulatory commissions for electricity, utility of Brčko, three ‘Elektroprivrede’ companies, the Independent System Operator of BIH and the BiH ‘Elektroprenos’.
Member of the regulatory commission for electricity of BIH Mirsad Salkić said that Bosnian federal and entity governments are dedicated to strengthening market processes in the electricity sector in BiH. According to him, the information gained will be useful to regulatory commissions, and representatives from electricity companies.
At a similar seminar, organized by USAID REAP project in December 2012, participants discussed hypothetical cases in which a customer looks for independent suppliers.
In this way, participants tested whether market processes were really established, that they were clear and transparent, and they also agreed on missing processes.
Representatives of all key institutions in the electricity sector went a step further in this seminar in establishing the missing process and development of detailed procedures with the goal to fully prepare the electricity market and for it to be understood by the public. With the completion of this process, BiH would meet many requirements specified by the Agreement of the Energy Community, which was ratified in 2006.
