The data published by the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO show that the coordinators of electricity balancing groups in Bulgaria paid over 90 million euros for deficit energy in 2016.
The total energy deficit in Bulgaria’s energy system last year amounted to 980,322 MWh, an increase from 968,070 MWh in 2015.
At the same time, total liabilities of ESO towards energy market participants for excess electricity amount to more than 6.5 million euros, without VAT. The volume of excess electricity dropped in 2016 to 1,144,163 MWh from 1,462,416 MWh a year earlier.
