The Bulgarian Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) has approved a 0.9 % increase in the wholesale natural gas price for March 2026, which is lower than the 1.7 % rise proposed by public supplier Bulgargaz in mid-February. The wholesale price now stands at around 32.6 euros/MWh, excluding VAT and excise duties. Previously, KEVR approved a 3.7 % decrease for February. Compared to March 2025, when the price reached 44.8 euros/MWh, the 2026 price is nearly 27 % lower.
The pricing mix for March includes the full contracted quantity of Azerbaijani natural gas delivered via the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB), under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan. These volumes cover a significant share of monthly consumption, helping to maintain a favorable price level.
The mix also incorporates liquefied natural gas (LNG) under contracts with traders, as well as quantities withdrawn from the Chiren underground gas storage facility, ensuring reliable supply throughout the month.
