The future solar plant is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4,000 tons per year.
Local subsidiary of German copper producer Aurubis said that it has started the construction of a solar power plant near its smelter in Zlatitsa, near the capital of Sofia.
The 10 MW Aurubis-1 solar power plant will consist of over 20,000 solar panels stretching over an area of 104,000 square meters and is expected to generate 11,000 MWh of electricity per year, which will be used for the company’s own needs.
Construction works will be carried out by CEZ ESCO. In the three years since its establishment, the company has worked on 53 projects, of which 20 for the construction of solar parks with a total capacity of 3.4 MW and this is its largest project yet.
