Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 2 April 2023 has decreased by 17.5% compared to 2022 and reached 12.45 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption also decreased in 2023, by 6% reaching a total of 10.9 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 1.6 TWh in 2023, 55% less than in 2022.
Baseload power plants produced a total of 10.7 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 17% less than in 2022. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 8% to 469 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 4% to 560 GWh.
