According to the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria, electricity production in December 2025 declined sharply by 32.6% compared to November, totaling 3,673 GWh, while electricity consumption increased by 19.6% month-on-month to 3,570 GWh. Natural gas consumption rose by 18.5% to 314 million cubic meters, whereas domestic gas production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
On an annual basis, compared to December 2024, electricity production decreased by 3.9%, while consumption edged up by 0.4%. Natural gas consumption recorded a 6.1% year-on-year increase, reflecting stronger winter demand.
In the oil products segment, production of unleaded petrol grew by 9.5% to 92,000 tons, while consumption surged by 28.6% to 63,000 tons. Diesel production fell by 5.2% to 164,000 tons, although its consumption rose by 1.3%, reaching 232,000 tons.
Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) declined by 5% to 38,000 tons, despite a notable 33.3% increase in production, which totaled 4,000 tons. Meanwhile, solid fuels output expanded by 16.4% to 1,821 thousand tons, with consumption also rising by 17.6% to 1,914 thousand tons, indicating stronger overall demand for traditional energy sources during the winter period.
