Electricity production in Bulgaria in the period between January 1 and December 18, 2022 increased by 6.5% compared to the same period in 2021, to 48.57 TWh, according to data published by the Bulgarian transmission system operator ESO.
On the other hand, electricity consumption in Bulgaria decreased by 1.7% in the same period and reached a total of 36.65 TWh. The surplus of electricity so far in 2022 amounted to 11.92 TWh. That is 43.2% more than in the same period last year.
Coal-fired thermal power plants and nuclear power plants produced a total of 41.21 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 9.7% more than in the same period in 2021.
The share of electricity from renewable energy sources in the transmission network increased by 22.7%, to 1,529.4 GWh, while the share of RES in the distribution network increased by 13.3%, to 2,125.3 GWh.
