Bulgaria: Electricity production at NPP Kozloduy in Q1 2021
, SEE Energy NewsIn the first four months of the year, Bulgaria’s sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy said that it has produced a total of 5,668 GWh of electricity. Electricity production in April alone amounted to 1,150 GWh. The statement from the company said that unit 5 produced 2,704 GWh of electricity in the January-April 2021 period, while unit 6 produced 2,984 GWh.
Unit 5 was taken offline on 17 April for regular annual maintenance, which should last until the end of May. Originally, NPP Kozloduy had six reactors, but four older 440 MW reactors were shut down in 2007 due to nuclear safety concern of the European Union. The plant currently operates two Soviet-built 1,000 MW reactors, unit 5 and unit 6 which were commissioned in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
