According to data published by the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator (ESO), electricity production in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 1 March 2026 decreased by 7.08% compared to 2025, reaching 7.92 TWh.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption increased in 2026 by 3.49%, reaching a total of 8.45 TWh. As a result, net electricity imports amounted to 533 GWh in 2026.
Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 5.82 TWh of electricity in 2026, which is 18.6% less than in 2025.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 4.31% to 507.8 GWh, while the RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 6.1% to 448.5 GWh.
