Electricity production in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 1 October 2023 has decreased by 21% compared to same period in 2022, to 30.42 TWh, According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
In the sam peeiod, electricity consumption decreased by 5%, to 27.11 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 3.31TWh in 2023, 67% less than in 2022.
Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 24 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 26% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 58 % to 1,924.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 10% to 1,931.6 GWh.
