Czech energy group Energo-Pro has successfully commissioned its first battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bulgaria, marking a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its presence in the country’s evolving energy market. The new facility, with a capacity of 10.75 MW and 24.31 MWh, has been connected to the national electricity grid and is expected to enhance system flexibility and energy balancing capabilities.
The battery storage installation is located in Gorna Oryahovitsa, northern Bulgaria, and was developed by Energo-Pro Bulgaria. The facility will be operated by Energo-Pro Energy Services, further strengthening the group’s portfolio of energy infrastructure assets and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources into the power system.
The project required a total investment of €4.23 million and received partial financial support through Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan under the Low Carbon Economy Program. The funding reflects the country’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition and promoting technologies that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient electricity sector.
With the commissioning of its first battery storage facility in Bulgaria, Energo-Pro is positioning itself to play a larger role in the modernization of the country’s energy infrastructure, while supporting grid stability and the broader deployment of clean energy solutions.
