In January 2025, Bulgaria’s energy sector saw notable changes in production and consumption across various energy resources. According to data from the National Statistical Institute, electricity production increased by 10.5% compared to December 2024, reaching a total of 4,223 GWh. Meanwhile, electricity consumption rose by 3.8%, totaling 3,690 GWh.
Natural gas consumption also experienced a slight rise of 1%, reaching 299 million cubic meters, while its domestic production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters. Compared to January 2024, electricity production saw a significant increase of 13.4%, while consumption slightly decreased by 0.6%. Natural gas consumption rose by 0.7% year-on-year.
In the fuel sector, the production of unleaded petrol fell by 13.2%, totaling 131,000 tons, while its consumption increased by 12.2% to 46,000 tons. Diesel production saw a 3.6% decrease, amounting to 268,000 tons, but its consumption surged by 14.8%, reaching 241,000 tons. Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) also rose by 8.6%, totaling 38,000 tons, though production remained stable at 5,000 tons.
Finally, solid fuel production and consumption both saw increases, with production rising by 15.6% to 2,664 thousand tons and consumption up by 15.8%, reaching 2,698 thousand tons.
These figures reflect ongoing changes in Bulgaria’s energy consumption patterns, with marked increases in energy use across several sectors.
