According to the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in January 2026 increased by 12.3% compared to December, reaching 4,126 GWh, while electricity consumption rose by 12.5% on a monthly basis to 4,015 GWh. Natural gas consumption in January 2026 increased by 14.3%, reaching 359 million cubic meters, while production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
Compared to January 2025, electricity production decreased by 2.3%, while consumption rose by 8.8%. Natural gas consumption increased by 20.1% compared to the same period last year.
In January, unleaded petrol production increased by 31.5% to 121,000 tons, while consumption fell by 39.7% to 38,000 tons. Diesel production rose by 38.4% to 227,000 tons, while consumption declined by 9.1% to 211,000 tons. Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dropped by 13.2% to 33,000 tons, while production also decreased by 25% to 3,000 tons.
During the same period, solid fuels production increased by 23.3% to 2,245 thousand tons, while consumption also rose by 20.1%, reaching 2,298 thousand tons.
