According to the Bulgarian natural gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz, Bulgaria and Romania will build a backup gas pipeline between these two countries under the Danube river.
In early April, the agreement for the construction of the section under the Danube, which is the last stage before the completion of Bulgaria-Romania gas interconnection, was signed with the Austrian company HABAU. This pipeline should be completed in mid-summer.
In addition to this main pipeline, Bulgartransgaz and its Romanian counterpart Transgaz have signed an agreement for the construction of backup gas pipeline under the Danube. The company INSPET SA has been selected as the main contractor in accordance with the Romanian law, while HABAU has been chosen as an associate company. The backup pipeline should be completed within 214 days after the start of its construction. The section of Bulgaria-Romania gas interconnection under the Danube is 2.1 kilometers long and it will have annual capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
