A total of 2,675,874 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) in May 2026, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume in May reached 86,318.5 MWh. Overall, trading activity in May 2026 was 20.2% higher compared to the same month last year, indicating continued growth in market participation and liquidity.
The average baseload price on the day-ahead market in May stood at 101.07 euros/MWh, which is 11% higher than in April (90.99 euros/MWh). In contrast, the average peak price increased more moderately to 61.05 euros/MWh, reflecting a 6% rise over the previous month.
Market participation also slightly expanded, with a total of 154 registered participants on the IBEX day-ahead market—one more than in April. This suggests a stable but gradually growing interest in the exchange.
On the intraday continuous market, a total of 737,085.6 MWh was traded, representing an 11% decrease compared to the previous period. However, the average weighted price surged significantly to 89.44 euros/MWh, showing a strong 36.1% increase, highlighting increased price volatility and tighter intraday trading conditions.
