A total of 2,886,403.1 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) in January 2026, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume reached 92,960.7 MWh, while the overall traded volume was 3.6% higher than in January of the previous year.
The average baseload price on the day-ahead market in January stood at 148.55 euros/MWh, representing a 27% rise from December’s 117.25 euros/MWh. At the same time, the average peak price climbed to 172 euros/MWh, up 31% month-on-month, reflecting stronger price dynamics in the market.
Market participation also expanded, with a total of 150 registered participants on the IBEX day-ahead market—three more than in the previous month. This indicates continued growth in market activity and engagement among traders.
A new daily trading record was achieved for the 27 January delivery day, when volumes reached 107,207.43 MWh. This surpassed the previous record of 104,445.8 MWh set for the 14 January 2024 delivery day, an increase of about 3%, highlighting robust demand and liquidity.
On the intraday continuous market, a total of 665,583.4 MWh was traded, up 8%, while the average weighted price reached 156.83 euros/MWh, a notable 25.9% increase, signaling firmer pricing trends in shorter-term trading as well.
