According to the plant’s business plan for 2021-2024 period, it will invest a total of 390 million euros in maintenance and modernization in the next three years.
According to Bulgarian Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR), the country’s sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy will reach gross electricity production of 16.35 TWh in 2020, which is by 143 GWh more than in the previous year.
This would be the plant’s record annual production, since the previous all-time high was achieved in 2019. However, electricity output of NPP Kozloduy will slightly decrease in 2021, reaching 16.24 TWh.
Originally, NPP Kozloduy had six reactors, but four older 440 MW reactors were shut down in 2007 due to nuclear safety concern of the European Union. The plant currently operates two Soviet-built 1,000 MW reactors, unit 5 and unit 6 which were commissioned in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
