Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 28 February 2021 has increased by 4.07 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 7.91 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped in the same period, by 1.92 % reaching a total of 7.31 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 600 GWh so far in 2021, three times more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 6.3 TWh of electricity in 2021, which is 6.36 % less than in 2020. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 8.99 % to 221.8 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 11.79 % to 288.4 GWh.
