Unit 6 at Bulgaria’s nuclear power plant Kozloduy has been temporarily shut down so technicians can replace a damaged safety component within the turbine system, according to the plant operator. The part in question is a rupture membrane assembly in the moisture separator reheater, which belongs to the conventional, non-nuclear section of the facility.
Operators stressed that the problem is limited to the turbine island and has caused no environmental impact or pollutant release. A new rupture membrane and pin have been produced using recently delivered materials that match the original technical standards. Once the planned maintenance is finalized, unit 6 is expected to be reconnected to the national power grid.
At the same time, unit 5 continues running normally and meeting its production targets. This is not the first intervention on the same system, as unit 6 was previously taken offline and later restarted after a similar defect in the turbine’s rupture disk assembly late last year.
