According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 31 December 2022 has increased by 5.7 % compared to 2021 and reached 50.42 TWh.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in 2022, by 1.81 % reaching a total of 38.18 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 12.24 TWh in 2022, 38.85 % more than in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 42.86 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 8.87 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 22.66 % to 1,577.5 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 13.25 % to 2,185.1 GWh.
