Bulgaria, Production of electricity has increased by 16.6 % in 2022
, SEE Energy NewsAccording to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 15 May 2022 has increased by 16.6 % compared to 2021 and reached 20.64 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.68 % reaching a total of 15.71 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 4.92 TWh GWh so far in 2022, 119.4 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 17.51 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 25.9 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 23.47 % to 608.4 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 18.39 % to 865.9 GWh.
