According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 2 October 2022 has increased by 12.25 % compared to 2021 and reached 38.79 TWh.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in the same period, by 0.39 % reaching a total of 28.6 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 10.19 TWh so far in 2022, 74.5 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 32.7 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 17.2 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 26.29 % to 1,225.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 15.13 % to 1,758.4 GWh.
