According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 28 November 2021 has increased by 15.81 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 42.37 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.39 % reaching a total of 34.79 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 7.58 TWh so far in 2021, 132.8 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 34.82 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 14.15 % more than in 2020.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 5.37 % to 1,141 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 1.74 % to 1,767.1 GWh.
