According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 19 September 2021 has increased by 12.52 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 32.84 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.5 % reaching a total of 27.5 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 5.35 TWh so far in 2021, 85.96 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 26.37 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 9.31 % more than in 2020.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 6.45 % to 929.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2.02 % to 1,462.2 GWh.
